A woman was in our swimwear store recently needing a suit for an Meridian Health Protocol upcoming vacation. She constantly bemoaned how heavy she perceived herself to be and how suit after suit looked horrible. She spent well over an hour making a choice and then rushed off saying she only had a few minutes to run by the market and pick up items for dinner. I gave this some thought and wondered why anyone wound spend so much time purchasing a single clothing item, and so little time making the food choices so relevant to their health, weight, and nutrition. More time on what you cover your body with and next to no time on what you put into it that makes it what it is.
I am not a new age food fanatic who grows my own food or one who solely relies on organic or unprocessed food, but I take direct responsibility for what I consume and how it effects me, good or bad. I am trim and fit for being in my fifties, and it is directly related to the time I spend understanding nutrition and applying it to what I buy in the market. I allow extra time to browse and really look at labels and nutritional values of items I am not familiar with. What surprises me the most is how otherwise smart people are so dumb when it comes to nutritional information. I am a strong advocate against the major chemical sweeteners on the market, namely aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose and have researched the severe heaths risks posed by them. The FDA maintains this Adverse Reaction Monitoring system, and since 1981, when aspartame first came on the market, 75% of the TOTAL calls received where aspartame-related. Seventy-five percent!!! This is from all calls about any food or drug available. Headaches, dizziness, attention difficulties, memory loss, slurred speech and vision problems to start. That alone merits a separate article.
